Boroujerdi House is the most famous and important historical house in Iran and one of the best tourist attractions of Kashan and is mentioned as a symbol of traditional Iranian architecture. Kashan Boroujerdi House is one of the historical monuments of this city. This building is located in Sultan Mirahmad neighborhood and was built in the second half of the 13th century AH during the Qajar period.
This house has an area of 1700 square meters and was registered in the list of national monuments in 1975 with the number 1083. Also selected in 2015 and 2016 as a popular tourist attraction by UNESCO. The Boroujerdi House is known as one of the most beautiful buildings left from the Qajar period and was built in 1292 by Seyyed Hassan Natanzi (Boroujerdi), one of the Natanzi merchants, in Kashan.
At that time, Haj Agha Hassan Boroujerdi proposes to Haj Seyed Jafar Tabatabai’s daughter for his son Seyed Mehdi. The girl’s father, who is one of the largest merchants in Kashan and the owner of the famous mansion of the Tabatabai family, declares that he agrees to this connection if the groom has a house equal to the house of the bride’s father.
Haj Agha Hassan Boroujerdi and his son also accept the condition of marriage and only after a few days, in the neighborhood of Sultan Amir Ahmad and near the house of the bride’s father, they begin the process of building a beautiful house for the Tabatabai family. The marriage resumes and due to the unpreparedness of the groom’s house as well as the grandeur of the Tabatabai mansion, Seyyed Mehdi and his wife live in one of the halls of this house.
After living in the Tabatabai family for seven years, Seyyed Mehdi decides to move with his family to the part of his mansion that has been completed, in order to speed up the process of designing and building the building. Increases the number of buildings and workers, unaware that the most beautiful mansion in Kashan is not going to be completed any time soon.
Finally, after 18 years of the life of the bride and groom, the construction of the Boroujerdi mansion is completed. The mansion, which is more than 100 years old, is today considered a masterpiece of Iranian and Islamic architecture. A building that great people such as Ali Maryami Kashani, Sania al-Molk and Kamal al-Molk spent about two decades of their lives designing and building, and no doubt have left their amazing genius and creativity in place of this mansion.
The Boroujerdi house generally consists of two parts, the outer and the inner. The main entrance and entrance vestibule are shared between the two sections. This building is of great importance in terms of local characteristics and architectural elements and interior decorations. The paintings of this building have been designed in various ways with oil and watercolor colors and under the supervision of the famous artist, the late Mirza Mohammad Khan Ghaffari, nicknamed Kamal al-Molk. On the roof of the hall, crescent-shaped skylights and symmetrical windbreaks are very interesting, which are among the original works of traditional Iranian architecture in terms of design and execution.
On the outside, there is a large courtyard in the center and buildings on either side of it. The winter and summer rooms, the entrance hall, the windbreaks and the hall that has skylights are all located outside.
The inner part of the Boroujerdi house has two parts, north and south. The northern part of the mansion includes a living room, a backyard, a simple five-door room, a safe and a large basement or cellar. The southern part of a central courtyard, the reception hall and two earring rooms which are located on both sides of the hall and open towards the hall; Composed.
The Boroujerdi mansion has three entrances, one as the main door, one for religious ceremonies and one for the entry and exit of guests. Interestingly, this historic house has two parts, called winter and summer rooms, where the residents lived at the time of the climate change.
Boroujerdi house is located in Alavi Street and Sultan Amir Ahmad neighborhood of Kashan.
