The Moher cliffs, with breathtaking views of the Arne Islands and the Gulf of Galway, is one of Ireland’s most popular tourist attractions.
Moher cliffs (Irish: Aillte an Mhothair meaning destroyed rocks, English: cliffs of Moher and also cliffs of Mohair) is located in the coastal village of Lyscanore, on the southwestern edge of the Bourne region near Dublin in the city of Keller, Ireland. Due to its location, if you visit this cliff on a clear and sunny day, you can see the Aran Islands in the Gulf of Galway and the valleys and hills of Kunmara from the top of the Moher cliffs. The cliffs are 120 meters above sea level in the Hogshead. To the north of the O’Brien Tower, at a distance of 8 km from the Hogshead, it reaches a maximum of 214 meters.
1 million people visit this amazing cliff in Ireland every year. The safest way to see the beauty of this precipice is through the official route or one of the three platforms intended for tourists to watch. This place is one of the most dangerous tourist areas in the world and a wrong step on the edge of this precipice can lead to a fall from its height into the Atlantic Ocean.
There is a circular rock tower in the center of Mohr, built in 1835 by Sir Cornelius O’Brien, a descendant of Brian Burruo, King of Ireland, to attract the attention of the women who came there, which gives the cliffs a beautiful view. From the top of the tower, visitors can see the Aran Islands and the Gulf of Galway, the Momtrak Mountains and the Tuolo Benz Mountains in northern Kunmara and the Loop Head in the south.
Moher cliff was selected as one of the 28 finalists for the Seven Wonders of Nature in January 2009 and topped the list of most visited tourist destinations in 2006.
The name of the Moher cliffs is derived from the name of the old castle that was once located at the southernmost point of these rocks in Hoggshead. The castle was still standing until 1780 and was mentioned in a report by John Lloyd Behnam on a short tour of Keller (1780). The tower that stands today near the site of the former castle is a watchtower built during the Napoleonic Wars.
Moher cliffs are mainly composed of Namuriani shale and sandstone beds and the oldest rocks are located at the bottom of these rocks. Due to its pristine location and nature, this cliff has a special vegetation and biology. Many animals live on Moher cliffs, most of which are birds. It is estimated that 30,000 birds of more than 20 species live in this area, including birds such as the Atlantic Puffin, which live in large groups in remote parts of the Moher cliffs and also on the small island of Goth.
This beautiful cliff is huge and unique. But it does not seem to be a good place for cycling … although many people use it as a cycling track. During the year, many athletes from all over the world come here to exercise in the height of excitement and insecurity and in a completely HD and full of danger atmosphere and ride bicycles on the edges of this cliff! The next exciting thing is that (it is said) scenes from the movie Leap Year (2010) and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) were filmed here.
Along with all the surprises and excitement of Moher, this is perhaps a place where you can also find peace. If you are looking for a place to relax, Moher cliffs will undoubtedly give you this peace. Because when you are in Moher, when you are alone in a corner, the sound of the ocean will overcome the sound of the thoughts in your mind, and you will hear nothing but the sound of the wind and the waves. Moher is the place where you can sit for hours for no reason and count the waves of the sea.
If you want to go to this amazing place you have to go to Ireland and from there to Dublin because most tours to visit these cliffs start from Dublin. You pass through 4 different cities along the way and gradually enter a beautiful forest road. Then you stop in the special parking lot and your visit begins. You have to walk the rest of the way. Little by little, the cliffs appear and the ocean becomes a carpet under your feet!
If you visit on a sunny day, be sure to bring safety equipment to prevent sunburn, because the sunny area is very sharp and clean.
