One of the natural attractions of Chile is the Chilean Marble Cave. This cave, called Chico, is known among the natives as a small church or nature sanctuary. The Chilean Marble Cave is 1,850 km wide and 586 m deep and is located on Lake General Carrera near the Chile-Argentina border. The cave has been formed for 6,000 years by the erosion of calcium carbonate with blue and green walls in this area. Marble Cave consists of several nesting caves in the form of an island in Lake Carrera.
The reason for the cave is the waves that have hit the rocks over time. The same waves caused the calcium carbonate of the rocks to erode over the years, or in other words to be washed away, giving the rocks their appearance as we see them now, and the rocks became smoother and smoother. Marble Cave is called a “protected nature”, which is one of the categories considered for national monuments in Chilean law. However, they are not yet well known among tourists and are almost a newly discovered and well-known destination in international tourism.
These ancient marble formations are now considered one of the areas that can be visited to see the nature of Chile.
