At the northern tip of Qarahtav and in western Kazakhstan there is a village called Shetpe. The area around the village is known as the Valley of the Balls or Torysh. The reason for this naming goes back to the exact appearance of this place, here every stone and rock you see is like a ball, round and well-formed. The number of these ball stones is not known, but their height usually reaches 3 to 4 meters. The area of this beautiful region is approximately 165,600 square kilometers, which is more than the total area of the United Kingdom.
It is interesting to know that phenomena such as these stone balls occur and are observed all over the world, but this valley is one of the few places where there are so many ball stones. Only by traveling to this place can you realize the depth of its charm because there are rocks in this valley that are the size of a car. If you have heard the name of the Lion Mountain or the Lion Rock (Castle Lion) of Kazakhstan, it is good to know that this mountain, which is very similar to the shape of a lion, is also in the city of Shatt, which is one of the fascinating sights of this region.
Many people do not recommend traveling to the Valley of the Balls and consider it a land without water, grass and desert, which is why many tourists refuse to go to this valley, and this is why the Valley of the Balls in terms of Tourism does not have much progress.
A geological phenomenon has caused the Balls Valley in Kazakhstan. These rocks are the result of weathering of volcanic ash, a rare phenomenon in which the center of the ash hardens as it occurs and eventually resembles sedimentary rocks but in a circle.
There is another geological theory according to which the main cause of the phenomenon of rock rounding is the precipitation of minerals along with rain, which gradually changes the shape of sedimentary rocks. This phenomenon, called chemical weathering, causes minerals to dissolve and deform, changing from cubic to round and circular.
During the event of this phenomenon, the volume of the rock also increases, and this increase in volume causes a lot of energy to be produced, and as a result of this energy, concentric layers are created, and finally, a layered rock is formed in the shape of a circle.
With all these details, no doubt about 180 to 120 million years ago, around the Mesozoic and Jurassic geological periods, wind, rain and soil helped each other to create a beautiful valley of balls in Kazakhstan.
Indeed, each of these rocks alone is a spectacular attraction; Some are as small as an egg and some are as big as a giant car. Due to the special appearance of this valley and its ball-shaped rocks, stories about this valley is spread among the local people and residents of Kazakhstan, the most important of which is the following story:
Many years ago, a large number of enemies attacked the city of Talas. The number of enemies was so large that the inhabitants of the city did not even think of fighting them, so they prayed day and night, secretly, so that their voices reached the heavens.
Shortly after this story, a terrible rain fell from the sky and thundered day and night. The lightning struck the enemies, causing all the enemies to be reduced to ashes and stones, and eventually, due to erosion, to the spherical stones that we see today in the Balls valley.
Undoubtedly, the area of Balls Valley is completely dry and desert, so we cannot consider a particular season more suitable for traveling to this place. Some travelers prefer to travel to this area in slightly colder seasons, which is definitely the best time for these people between December and March. But note that the valley of the balls will still be hot and burning.
Unfortunately, you have to use a personal vehicle to reach the valley of balls, and there are no special public vehicles that will take you to this valley. Foreign tourists who like to travel to this area are advised to go to travel agencies in Kazakhstan and buy Balls valley tours from them.
